SJBAS Volunteer Opportunities
SJBAS is a member-driven organization and we are only as effective as our volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, helping with pre-meeting socials, leading field trips, serving on the Board of Directors, helping with our annual picnic and holiday brunch, serving on various committees, and helping with the John W. Sanders lecture. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Susan Hicks at email@example.com.
Open Board positions
Membership Chair - The Board of Directors is looking for a gregarious, organized, and motivated person to fill the position of Membership Chair, a vital position to SJBAS. The Membership Chair has one vote on the Board. For more information and a position description, please contact Susan Hicks, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Publicity Chair - The Board of Directors is looking for a member to fill the position of Publicity Chair, an important position to publicize SJBAS activities. The Publicity Chair has one vote on the Board. For more information and a position description, please contact Jill Tripp email@example.com.
Volunteer to manage Summer Picnic - We need a volunteer to organize and manage our summer picnic to be held at the Edgemont Ranch Picnic Grounds on June 10th. For more information about what this entails, please contact Susan Hicks firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pecos Conference in August - We need volunteers to get involved with the conference and promote SJBAS. For more information, please contact Foxie Mason at email@example.com.
Hospitality Volunteers - We generally need one or two volunteers to bring cookies or simple snacks and to help set up the welcome tables in the foyer at the Center of Southwest Studies before our monthly meetings. If you are interested, please contact Susan Hicks, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Field Trip Leaders - Our field trip leaders are a crucial componet of our Field Trip program. One of the best ways to get involved is to attend our annual Field Trip Planning Meeting in the fall. You don't have to be an avocational archaeologist or specialist in any field to lead a field trip. Organizational skills and some knowledge of the area or site you want to visit are helpful. Field trip leaders often arrange guided tours using local experts or tribal guides to interpret sites. For more information, contact Lyle Hancock at email@example.com.
John W. Sanders Lecture - We need a variety of volunteers to organize and run this annual lecture series held in September at the Student Union ballroom at Fort Lewis College. Volunteers are needed to check in guests, sell tickets and books, to monitor doors, and to greet guests. If you are interested, please contact Susan Hicks, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Summer Picnic - We need volunteers to help setup, grill, and cleanup. If you are interested in more details, please contact Susan Hicks, email@example.com.
Annual Meeting and Holiday Brunch - This event is held in early December at the Vallecito Room at Fort Lewis College. We need volunteers to help organize and run the silent auction, decorate tables, and staff the check-in table. If you are interested in more details, please contact Susan Hicks, firstname.lastname@example.org.
